Thoron Onsen Inari

My friend and I came here every night in Kyoto as it was only a few minutes walk from our accommodation. The owner is so sweet and friendly. She doesn’t speak English, but she is patient and I loved finding out about the history of the onsen by conversing through Google Translate. They provide a small towel and soap if you need one, but I’d also recommend bringing another towel and your own soaps. The baths and facilities are very clean. Such a relaxing place to unwind after a long day exploring Kyoto and other areas. Highly recommend getting a cold milk or drink from the fridge afterwards, then relaxing at the bar or couch. Ohki-ni!

A guide for first timer from a second timer 1. Slide to open the door 2. Take off your shoes and put it into the shoe rack 3. Pay cash at the reception 4. The reception lady will give you a new bottle of shampoo, a soap and a towel (I suggest to bring your own towel) 5. Get into the changing room, undress yourself and put all your items into the locker 6. Get into the bathroom 7. Bath and clean yourself 8. Get into the onsen and enjoy! A bottle of milk after this onsen is highly recommended!

Definitely an out of comfort zone experience. Language barrier but there’s English signs so you get the memo . I didn’t know my hair had to be up and a local was signalling to me to put it up. So keep that in mind as there was no sign . Tattoo friendly as well which was a huge plus for me ! The water is VERY hot which I like but I got dizzy after a while . Good price though even if you’re only in there for a moment!

First time in a onsen for us. The lady at the desk was so nice even if she didn't speak other languages made her best to understand us and be understood. We had a vague idea on how onsen works but all the other clients were nice and helped us to do the right thing. We are both heavily tattooed and it was not a problem for no one. It is like a family ambient when people often know eachother. A little gem.

I felt very welcomed here. Although I am a bigger girl with tattoos. I really wanted to try the original onsen experience, and I has it here. There are separated areas for men and women. There were only locals and me, so I was intimidated a bit. But all in all I loved the experience. Would recommend it to anyone, there is a big hot bath for share a small extra cold one, and a sauna.
