Tokachidake Onsen Hot Springs

The view was amazing! ^_^ I heard the autumn leaves were at their peak, so I decided to take a spontaneous trip. To reach the Tokachidake Observation Deck, you need to hike up the mountain for about an hour from the parking lot, and since I wasn't equipped for hiking, I only explored the area around the parking lot. I'm sure the view from the observation deck is spectacular. The "Kamifurano Tokachidake Autumn Leaves Festival" is being held from October 4th to 10th, 2025. Today, the first day, it was incredibly crowded. I arrived a little after 9 AM, but there were so many cars parked on the roadside that they couldn't fit in the parking lot, making driving both there and back extremely scary! It's only about a 20-minute drive from the town center to Tokachidake Onsen, but the road is narrow and quite steep, so please drive with caution! ^_^

Last place to stock up on food and drink before the hike to mount Furano and surrounding mountains. Very polite and nice staffs. Definitely recommending the place. This place is like a marker for the trail to see how far it is to finish.

The highest hot spring in Hokkaido is located at Tokachidake Onsen Area. Ryounkaku Ryokan is about 1280m above sea level. The hot spring here is rich in iron and its color is unique orange. Best outdoor bath view.

A nice onsen at the base of the mountain, facilities are a little old and it shows but overall a good experience. The onsen itself had hot and cold baths. The hot baths contained iron which was a nice surprise.
