Free outdoor onsen! Clean with continuously flowing water. There's no shower/soap and only a small changing area. Lots of locals drive to the area just for this onsen. Nobody is watching so it's honesty basis on not peeking on the other gender's side. Women's side has an extra cover at the entrance, the men's side doesn't so their onsen is actually slightly visible from the outside.
One of the best onsen I’ve ever visited. Totally open, very nice atmosphere and the onsen water is also nice. The onsen stand alone on a hiking trail, no shower facilities so you need to shower elsewhere before visiting. Let’s keep the place clean and tidy for other people use, you can place the entry fee into the box outside the onsen for local people maintaining the place.
This is an amazing onsen to bathe in nature, highly recommend. The water contains high sulfur content, which acts as a natural disinfectant... so no chlorine is added. I'm a heavily tattooed foreigner, and this is one of a few hotsprings that I was permitted to enjoy (as tattoos in 2023 are still heavily stigmatized in Japan, especially amongst the older generation).
Ho!!! It was really hot! But really fun. Reading previous messages, I guess they added protection for women bath, my wife got her privacy without problems. For men, it's not the same, shy person will be uncomfortable. My skin is still burning after 10min, I feel it really smooth :)
An amazing place for an outdoor onzen - even without the snow. Warm rather than hot but an ideal temperature. Was slightly algae-y on the bottom so was a little slippery but just be careful. A small hut to change in but bring your own towel.

Make a day of it — a quick-dry towel, dry bag, and post-soak layers take almost no pack space.
