tsukushi no yu

This public bath is located deep in the mountains, about a 5-10 minute drive from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. A family bath for two adults costs 3,200 yen, plus an additional 60 minutes for each additional person. As it's a public bath, it's undeniably a bit pricey. There's a strong smell of cigarettes when you enter the facility, so it might not be suitable for non-smokers or those with children. The receptionist was an elderly man and very nice. The bath does not have a changing room; instead, the door reveals a wooden slatted floor on which you change. There is also little space to store luggage. There is a toilet indoors, but the floor was peeling, raised, and dilapidated. I refrained from using it as I was worried about bugs. The water had a strong chlorine smell and was a little lukewarm. Being an open-air bath in the mountains, there are naturally bugs. Since there is no changing room, I imagine you'll be attacked by mosquitoes and other insects while changing in the summer. In terms of cleanliness, the hot water is not replaced and the building is old, so it doesn't seem very clean.

I confirmed that they were open until midnight and that they weren't closed. I followed my car navigation system, but when I arrived, it was rice fields? It was pitch black. I turned around in the dark and finally arrived around 10:15 PM using Google Maps. The receptionist said, "Oh, it closes at 10:30 PM." I immediately went to Kasuga Fukunoyu. I just read other people's reviews and saw that they mentioned opening hours, so I should have checked. Fukunoyu was open late, which was great, though. I wish they'd at least fix their official website. I want my wasted hour back.

This is a drop-in bath near Kamado Shrine in Dazaifu. There are both indoor and outdoor baths, so I was able to relax and soothe my tired body after climbing Mount Homan. The beer after the bath was also great.

I just arrived in 2nd WED, 10th July. Closed and notification, Every WED closing. Web page still shows ‘only the third Wednesday is closed’. But it’s not true. I'm so disappointed on this.

We had enjoyed a private bath for a very reasonable price. The place was very clean. Man at the reception can speak English. A bottle of milk or coffee milk after a bath is a must 😉 …
