This time, we'll be introducing Wadayama-no-Yu, a naturally flowing hot spring in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture. This newly renovated hot spring facility boasts a diverse selection of baths and free-flowing spring water. With easy access and ample parking, it's popular with locals and tourists alike. The hot spring is a mildly alkaline, simple spring, characterized by its rich texture. The bath is known for leaving your skin feeling smooth, and it's no wonder that it attracts so many repeat visitors. The open-air cypress bath and rock bath offer luxurious spaces where you can soak while feeling the breath of nature. The facility also offers a tub bath and a reclining bath, further expanding the enjoyment of bathing. Wadayama-no-Yu's greatest attraction is its sauna. There's a steam sauna inside the building and a herbal sauna outdoors. The two offer different types of soothing experiences. The steam sauna gently envelops your body in its humid heat. Many reviews say that you can sweat without feeling dry, creating an atmosphere that is welcoming even for beginners. Meanwhile, the herbal sauna is filled with the soft scent of herbs, soothing both body and mind from the inside out. The temperature is slightly gentler, and it's renowned for its relaxing effects. Many sauna-goers say that the feeling of being enveloped in the scent and becoming relaxed is addictive. The cold water bath is a pleasant 17°C, instantly toning up a heated body. There's also an open-air bathing area, making resting while feeling the pleasant breeze truly a blissful moment. Sauna Ikitai 78 (July 31, 2025) ※ A local facility worth visiting This super public bath is located about a five-minute drive from Wadayama Interchange. Stepping inside, you'll feel like you're in a traditional Japanese inn, brimming with Japanese culture. It has an unusual design, with 50% indoor and 50% outdoor space. The bath is filled with Wadayama's free-flowing hot spring water, slightly viscous and slightly alkaline, making it gentle on the skin. The temperature is around 42°C, giving it a more relaxed feel than alternating between hot and cold baths. There are also multiple baths to enjoy, including a germanium hot spring and a jet bath. The sauna itself has two: an indoor far-infrared sauna and an outdoor herbal steam sauna. The former is a unique design, similar to a four-tiered tower sauna that can accommodate approximately 20 people. It also has an unusual style, where you bathe using swimming pool kickboards. The temperature is 90°C, the humidity is just right, and it allows for thorough steaming. The music playing inside a supermarket is a bit annoying, though... The latter is located in the open-air area and is very soothing with its pleasant herbal scent and copious mist. It's not too hot, making it a great place to unwind after a far-infrared sauna. And then there's the cold bath. It's 16-17°C, but it feels much colder. It can accommodate 3-4 people and is nearly 1m deep, so it's perfect for cooling down. However, you can't see the water flow, which makes you wonder if it's not circulating well, which makes you skeptical about its cleanliness. Given the good water quality, it would be better if it looked like it was circulating, even if it wasn't overflowing. Despite the low cost, it has a spacious space that evokes the atmosphere of a Japanese inn, a spacious open-air bath, complimentary water, and two saunas. If only the circulation of the cold bath was better... I'll give it three stars.

I stopped by here to wash off the sweat on my way back from the Takeda Castle ruins. It's about an 11-minute drive. It was a hot September holiday. It was empty around noon, but I was able to relax. The facility appears to have been renovated, and is user-friendly and clean. There's also a rock sauna, but it's only 800 yen for bathing. There are two saunas, one cold bath, three indoor baths, and five outdoor baths, all of which are directly fed by the hot spring. The water is clear and smooth. The best parts were the steam sauna with its pleasant herbal scent and the four tub baths. I went back and forth between these two (lol). There are benches for outdoor bathing, but it's a shame you can't lie down. (There is a reclining bath, but it's hot!) With bathing fees rising across the board recently, I'm happy to be able to enter for just 800 yen. The water filter in the changing room after bathing is as convenient as a hotel.

We love onsen! The mineral water is skin smoothing! I like warmer temperature water, so the outdoor bath is great for me! Herbal steam room also is good! There is shop area and restaurant at the front. For those who has not been to hot spring house before, take off shoes and put inti the locker when you enter the area. Purchase your ticket for the service (we bought the 700 yen onsen ticket this time), then take your ticket and your shoe locker key to the front desk, the receptionist will exchange a locker key in the changing room for you. Towel is not included, either you bring your own towel or pay 200 yen to rent one. When you finish, return the locker key to the front desk to get the shoe locker key.

The day after visiting the Takeda Castle ruins, I stopped by here on my way home. It's easily found along the street, with parking on the first floor and the building on the second. Adult admission was 800 yen. Towels and other items are available for rental. Opening hours: 11:00 AM - 9:30 PM (open year-round). The hot spring bath is fed directly from the source. This facility boasts the largest number of baths in the Tajima region, including outdoor baths such as the Tsubo-yu, Nekorobi-yu, Silk-in Bath, and daily-changing bath, as well as a large public bath. It was recently renovated (September 2024), so the interior was clean and quite nice.
