Yamashiro Onsen (Hot Spring)

Please note the name of the onsen town is the same as the name of the onsen. This building is known as the Ko-Soyu. Where soyu is the name of the bath house in the local dialect. There are 2 bath houses, this one and the more updated and modern Soyu which is right next door. The entrance is marked by the hanging red/maroon cloth and is a bit non descript. This bath house is of historical value, otherwise it costs 500 yen and another 200 yen for a bath towel for you to use it. There are NO showering facilities, only a hot spring pool in the middle which has no outdoor view. There is a second floor where you can see the stained glass windows with just simple view of the city around it. The lounge area or so it is called is mainly to cool off after the bath which is rather hot, hotter than most Japanese baths I’ve been to. I would think it would be more advisable to visit the new Soyu rather than this one. There is a vending ticket option to get both access for 700 yen but this one isn’t very special otherwise if we don’t appreciate the history.
