This is a great place for dinner and onsen in Jozankei. It is one of the few onsen in the area which accepts non-staying guests in the evenings during peak holiday periods. The spacious restaurant upstairs closes at 8:00PM (Last Order 7:00PM). You order from a touch screen or regular vending machine. We tried their jingisukan, soup curry, and katsu set meals, all were copious and delicious. There is self-serve water. For the onsen (open 10:00-21:00), you buy your ticket from the vending machines in the lobby (980円 in December 2024) and give it to the folks at the counter before entering the men or women’s side (they switch the sides on certain days). The onsen is explicitly no tattoos, there are posters forbidding them. My friend hid her (small) tattoos with bandages, and no one complained, but there is a risk you can be kicked out if there are people who are bothered by tattoos. The onsen was huge and not crowded on the women’s side. There are coin lockers (100円 coin, returned). The showers provided shampoo and body wash. There is a shelf inside for towels. There are many kinds of baths. Inside there was a large hot bath, sauna, cold bath, massage jet baths, and a shoulder-massaging raised spout with seats. Outside there was a steam room and two hot baths. It was beautiful in the snow!

Slightly over priced but offers amazing outdoor views. We came during the autumn foliage. Being able to enjoy the outdoor baths whilst admiring the views was heavenly. No tattoos allowed so please he careful. Jozankei is a tourist spot so an exception should be made like other tourist onsen towns in Japan. Also 2022… cmooooon! Couple of negatives that are reflected in my 3stars. Loud obtrusive announcements regularly on the intercom disturbs the peaceful environment. So does the TV in the sauna. Please Japan either have some thing relaxing on them bloody tellys or take them off all together. Having said that being able to see the outdoor view from the sauna was great. Finally the cold water bath could do with being colder. I got excited when i read in one of the reviews that it was cold but it wasn’t any where near.

If you are visiting Jozankei for a day, I really recommend this onsen. When you first arrive you take off your shoes and leave them in a locker in the entrance (100 yen), then there is a machine right besides to take your entrance ticket to the onsen (980 yen). Once you enter the changing room, there is another locker (100 yen) where you can leave your stuff. And there is as well a basket to leave your clothes. Once you enter the onsen, first you must body wash and clean your hair. The restaurant in the second floor has also a good offer price/quality. I took the path through the Futami suspension bridge which has beautiful views. Woman and men have different onsen. The onsen is both inside and outside with multiple places where you can bath.

This was my first onsen experience, and I would definitely recommend. The entrance price was 890¥, payable by credit card if you ask at the front. You can pay for other treatments and spa items, but the entrance price is lower and not displayed at the front from what I could see. There is a nice cafe in the entrance area and plenty of coin lockers at the front entrance and in the changing rooms. Shampoo and washing stations were plentiful. For transit, they are not running a free bus anymore but the bus to Sapporo station runs once an hour on average - double check outside of Google Maps! The directions are not perfect in these parts. A light rain was falling while I was there, and it made a nice contrast with the woods behind the onsen

We have one day trip driving from Sapporo for almost an hour on 19 Oct 2024. After seeing all the places in Jozankei, it's worth a visit for our family to have Onsen here. The price is cheap with varieties of Onsen facilities. The staff are friendly. After Onsen, there is a Japanese restaurant on 2nd floor with varieties of food also. I could have Onsen with my son in male area while my wife could separately has Onsen with my daughter in female area also. We have very good relaxing time here.
