This is a hot spring with a nice atmosphere. It's good that it's reasonably priced, but it's very small, so the level of comfort will vary considerably depending on how crowded it is. The open-air bath is pleasant, located by the river, but the depth is a bit tricky, and there are no steps, so it feels like you're jumping into the deep part. I wonder how elderly people get in and out. Perhaps because of this, no one was using the open-air bath; I was the only one. If there were at least steps, like stairs, it would be easier to get in and out of the bath. Because I'm small, the depth is a bit tricky, and when I sit down, my face gets submerged, so I have to be half-crouching. It's not a very functional design. Revisited March 2020 The open-air bath was difficult to get into, but it felt great.

Yunokawa Onsen is a very small hot spring resort located deep in the Shimokita Peninsula, along the Yunokawa River. Among them, Jojoen is a day-trip hot spring open to the general public. The entrance fee is 380 yen. The spring water is colorless, transparent, odorless, and tasteless, an alkaline simple spring. It has an indoor bath, an open-air bath, and a sauna. The indoor bath, fragrant with locally produced Aomori cypress, is particularly wonderful. You can relax both body and mind while listening to the gentle murmur of the Yunokawa River. Furthermore, Yunokawa Onsen was the setting for the movie "The Straits of Hunger." Therefore, many newspaper clippings about "The Straits of Hunger" are posted inside the facility. However, the public bath used for filming no longer exists.

Bathing costs 380 yen. I enjoyed the colorless, transparent, and mild alkaline simple spring water. The baths are designed to be very popular, with a wooden indoor bath and an open-air bath overlooking the river. Although the source temperature is over 50 degrees, the water was quite lukewarm. The indoor bath felt like 41 degrees, and the open-air bath about 39 degrees? My skin felt smooth and silky after soaking. After bathing, I felt refreshed, as is typical of alkaline hot springs. A hot spring with a pH of over 8, like a facial toner ♨️. Local people were coming and going. The indoor bath is a wooden tub that can fit 7-8 people. The water is thick and the tub is slippery, so watch your step. There was also an open-air bath, but unfortunately, horseflies had been appearing for the past two or three days, so I only used the indoor bath (I hate horseflies). Descending the stairs from the indoor bath leads to a charming open-air bath overlooking the river, but it was visible from the indoor bath. The changing room was small and incredibly hot 💦😵 A sauna was also available.

I returned to Yunokawa Onsen♨ for the first time in 30 years, and the building seemed to have been renovated, leaving me with the impression that it was larger and more beautiful than I had imagined. Back then, Kawauchi Town had not yet merged with Mutsu City. The only thing that remains a distant memory is the open-air bath, where you can enjoy the scent of cypress and watch the river flow. This time, I visited in winter, but it is a fascinating day-trip hot spring facility that shows different faces with each season.
