Yurakutei

It is located in a place that is difficult to reach without a car and is far from Kumamoto City, but there is definitely a reason to come. The cave hot spring is truly unique and incredible. There are sulfur crystals inside the spring, to the point where it stings. However, it was the most unique hot spring I have ever visited.

Interesting cave bath, friendly staff (and cats) and authentic seafood! The cats followed me to my room and didn’t want to leave. We stayed with the cats overnight (cat toilet and cat food provided), though It was a special treat by chance. I love this place so much and it made the most memorable part of my journey in Kumamoto!

The rooms are nice, and you can enjoy a magnificent view of Mount Unzen-Fugen from the beach, which is just a 3-minute walk away.

I used it as an overnight stay before climbing mountains in Amakusa. I'm also collecting stamps for secluded hot spring inns.
