Historical Site of Dr. Wang In

Dr. Wangin, a scholar, traveled to Japan during the reign of King Geunchogo of Baekje and introduced Baekje's advanced culture. He is revered as the founder of Japan's ancient Asuka culture. It is said to hold annual exchange exhibitions with Japan and is a popular tourist attraction. The site of his birthplace, Seonggi-dong, is home to the Seongcheon Stream, where he is said to have drank, the Wangin Shrine where he performed ancestral rites, a museum exhibiting artifacts, a school where he interacted with his fellow students, and a memorial stone. Various events and festivals are also held here. Free admission, ample parking, and well-maintained walking paths and parks are also available.

It is much larger than I expected and has a lot to see. There are many flowering trees, such as cherry blossoms, tulips, and magnolias, making it a great place for taking photos. Parking is free, and there is no admission fee. There are various food trucks and stalls. Even though the festival was postponed this year due to foot-and-mouth disease, there were quite a lot of visitors.

If you're visiting Yeongam, South Jeolla Province, I highly recommend the Wangin Park Historic Site. It's larger than expected, boasting spacious grounds and ample space. The collection and museum are quite impressive. It's a great place to get some fresh air.

Yeongam is one of the few free admission destinations in the area, making it a great family destination. Although the weather this year has been unusually unfavorable, I was able to see the cherry blossoms at just the right time and they were truly beautiful.

I went to the Baekje Wanginbaksa Festival. It took about an hour from Gwangju. It was a festival with a lot to see and eat. I'll definitely come back again. The festival also had many photo spots, so there were plenty of things to take pictures of.
