Jindo Bridge

Jindo Bridge is Korea's first cable-stayed bridge, connecting Munnae-myeon, Haenam County, and Gunnae-myeon, Jindo County, in South Jeolla Province. The first bridge opened in 1984, and the second bridge was added in 2005 due to increased traffic. The first and second bridges are twin cable-stayed bridges, each measuring 484 meters long. Jindo Bridge 1: 484 meters long, 11.7 meters wide (opened in 1984) Jindo Bridge 2: 484 meters long, 12.55 meters wide (opened in 2005) Below the bridge is the Myeongnyang Strait (Uldolmok), famous for its strong currents. Nearby is the Myeongnyang Battle Memorial Exhibition Hall, which commemorates Admiral Yi Sun-sin's victory, and a sea cable car. At night, the bridge is illuminated with colorful lights, creating a beautiful nightscape and serving as a local landmark.

Visiting Jindo Bridge on the way to Jindo for the first time in a while, I noticed there is a convenience store at the bottom and a wooden deck installed along the sea. I heard that a market is held there in spring, summer, and autumn, not just in winter, so take your time wandering around. Also, gaze at the sea and watch the currents, reminiscing about the days of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and the Battle of Myeongnyang; try to absorb some of the Admiral's energy. Furthermore, be sure to visit the village following in the footsteps of Song Ga-in.

Completed in 1984, Jindo Bridge is Korea's first cable-stayed bridge. It features an A-shaped main tower and radial cable arrangement. Below Jindo Bridge is Uldolmok, the historic site of the Battle of Myeongnyang, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin decisively defeated the Japanese forces attempting to advance northward across the West Sea.

Jindo Bridge consists of the 1st and 2nd bridges. Beneath them lies the Nokjin Tourist Area, where the statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, a Panokseon (Korean warship), and a marine ecological park have been established. The currents of Uldolmok are also fascinating to observe.

You can get a close-up view of the Uldolmok estuary beneath Jindo Bridge, and there's no admission fee. If you time it right, you can watch people catching mullet with a net and admire the imposing statue of General Yi Sun-sin.
