Nagan Spa
I used to have a Nagan Hot Springs when I lived in Suncheon. I was in elementary school back then, around 1994-1996? I remember going with my parents when they heard the hot springs had opened. But someone else said it was in 2003, which would have made me a college student in 2003... I think I was definitely in elementary school... or middle school... Anyway, it's been a while. Back then, the sulfur smell was incredible. It was always smoky, had a strong eggy smell, and was slippery. The dirt came off like noodles, lol. Now, it doesn't have that sulfurous smell like Hell Valley in Hokkaido back then. It's perfect lol. The water is still soft, and the dirt comes off easily. My wife is also very satisfied. They have green tea baths, and the funny thing is, they're not just a crude imitation; they have a rich green tea aroma and color. You can feel the tannins just by looking at them. The facility is old, but it's the only hot spring in my hometown. The water is still good, too. ^^
Nakgan Hot Springs was designated as a Hot Spring Source Protection District on March 5, 2003, by Jeollanam-do Notice No. 2003-25, covering an area of 1,444,000 m² in Sangsong-ri, Nakgan-myeon, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do. Prior to the development plan (large hot spring bath, amusement facilities, accommodation facilities, rehabilitation facilities, etc.), the Nakgan Hot Springs Bathhouse was constructed on the mid-slope of Geumjeonsan Mountain, offering a panoramic view of Nakgan Folk Village, in order to promote the hot spring water containing sodium bicarbonate, sulfur, germanium, and various minerals beneficial to human health. The water is smooth due to its high pH (10.1 mg/L) concentration and is a blend of 13 components including sulfur, germanium, and potassium. It is effective in improving athlete's foot, eczema, dandruff, and atopic dermatitis, and is also beneficial for various chronic diseases of the joints and nervous system.
Nakan Hot Springs doesn't have the best facilities, but it's a natural hot spring, and the water is said to be the best in Korea. The water is incredibly soft. After bathing there, your skin feels incredibly soft and smooth. The water is so good, I often visit. When I have indigestion, a bath at Nakan Hot Springs makes my body and mind feel refreshed and invigorated. This is my favorite hot spring recommendation. The only thing I wish they'd invested more money in improving the old facilities would make it even better.
After exploring Nagan Fortress Village on a chilly day, we headed to the nearby Nagan Oncheon (Nagan Hot Spring). The warm soak was just what we needed to shake off the cold and fatigue. The two gentlemen running the place were super friendly, and the hot spring water was wonderfully warm. The facilities might not be the newest, but they brought back nostalgic memories of childhood visits to public baths. Our skin felt soft and smooth afterward. If we’re ever in the area again, we’d definitely go back.
Departing from Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, at 4:00 AM Arriving at 8:00 AM, I stopped by thinking it would be a shower and a quick nap, but it was surprisingly large and well-equipped. Of course, the condition was a bit poor due to the long years, but the manager and owner of the Evilso was also on hand. There was a wooden pillow in the center of the bathhouse, perfect for a quick nap. I highly recommend this as a nearby stop to relieve fatigue.
