Wonsando Beach

Wonsando Beach, which I stopped by on my way back after passing through the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel! Since it wasn't summer, it was a time that felt very relaxed. It has been a while since I visited a beach on an island, and it seems to have a lot more natural charm! Now that the undersea tunnel has opened and the area has been developed, that natural charm will likely disappear. Definition A beach located on Wonsando Island in Ocheon-myeon, Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do. History of Establishment Among coastal sandy beaches, those with fine sand that stretches long and wide, a gentle slope, beautiful scenery (such as sand dunes planted with black pine trees behind them), and suitable seawater temperatures are generally utilized as beaches. In Boryeong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, coastal sandy beaches are well-developed throughout the coasts of both the mainland and the islands, and beaches have been established on almost all of them. There are 17 beaches in Boryeong-si, and Wonsando Beach is one of them. **Changes** As Wonsando Beach is state-owned land, private development has been restricted in principle. Therefore, the Wonsando Beach Prosperity Association is currently working to facilitate private development of Wonsando Beach by leasing the state-owned land. Wonsando Beach is named after the island it belongs to. Wonsando's old names were 'Gomando' and 'Gorando,' but it is said to have been called 'Wonsando' because of its high mountains and numerous hills. **Composition** Wonsando is the second largest island in Chungcheongnam-do after Anmyeondo, so it is home to several beaches. Located along the southern coast of the island, Obongsan Beach, Sachang Beach, Wonsando Beach, and Jeodu Beach are situated in order from west to east. Wonsando Beach is the largest of the beaches on Wonsando. Wonsando Beach faces south, a rarity in the West Sea, and is minimally affected by tides, offering ideal conditions for swimming. Wonsando Beach, which catches the eye with a rocky peak rising midway across the sandy beach, is divided into western and eastern sections based on this peak. The sand at Wonsando Beach consists of high-quality silica, with particles so fine they resemble sprinkled flour that they are supplied as raw material to the Korea Plate Glass Factory in Incheon. With an area of 234,000 square meters, a length of 1,950 meters, and a width of 120 meters, Wonsando Beach is relatively large compared to other beaches on the island. The water depth is 1.5 meters, the slope is 2 to 3 degrees, and the water temperature is 21℃, making it suitable for swimming. A cool spring called "Chansam" gushes out at Wonsando Beach, eliminating the common difficulties with drinking water often experienced on islands. Current Status Wonsando Beach can be reached via the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel, which recently opened between Daecheon Port and Wonsando, in addition to ships departing from Daecheon Port. There are about 10 accommodation establishments near Wonsando Beach. Some of these accommodations also double as restaurants, while some local residents operate seafood restaurants and shops catering to tourists. Most of these service businesses operate only during the summer season. Homestay-style accommodations are available near Wonsando Beach, and visitors can enjoy camping at the campsite. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset at Wonsando Beach. Rocky shores rise up at the point where the sandy beach of Wonsando Beach ends; fishing from these rocks yields catches of rockfish, black sea bass, and spotted sea bream. Catching mud crabs crawling in the crevices of the rocks is also quite enjoyable, and various types of shellfish can be easily gathered by digging just a little into the sand. A walking path runs between the pine forest and the sandy beach of Wonsando Beach. A large-scale development plan for Wonsando is currently being prepared. Centered around Wonsando Beach and the nearby Obongsan Beach, the plan includes the construction of accommodations such as condominiums, family hotels, youth hostels, rental villas, and inns; a marine sports complex featuring a seawater swimming pool, water skiing, motorboats, jet skis, and windsurfing; and sports facilities such as a multi-purpose sports field, tennis courts, cycling courses, and physical and mental training areas. The management department for Wonsando Beach is the Wonsando Branch Office.

It's quiet and peaceful. The only place to buy food is a snack cart, so there are only drinks, ice cream, and waffles. It's a bit disappointing, but... It's a good idea to bring some snacks and go out for a bit. There are a lot of seashells on the sandy beach, so you'll definitely need to wear shoes. Other than that, it was relatively quiet, even though it was vacation season. The shower room and bathroom were well-maintained past the pine tree path. The bathroom smelled a bit, but... contrary to the smell, it wasn't dirty. There were a few pensions, but it seemed like everyone was camping. I saw this place a while back, and it was nice because it was quiet and peaceful. I visited it as a day trip, and it was fun. Daecheon Port and the fish market are just 10 minutes away. I've been seeing a lot of news articles about the undersea tunnel lately. You can get there in about 5 minutes after passing through the tunnel.

It's a very, very quiet place. Some people say they go clam digging here, but I couldn't find any clams no matter how hard I looked. They say the entrance is blocked, but it seems to be private property. You should enter from the right side of the road. There are a lot of clamshells, so it's not suitable for running around barefoot. I stopped by on my way from Daecheon, and it has a quiet, cozy charm, different from Daecheon Beach. There's a pension at the end of the beach, but there weren't many people there, so the road back in felt a bit remote.

Weekdays. No staff or visitors. I visited after hearing good reviews, but the entrance to the park was blocked by a barricade, citing a 30,000 won per night admission fee. Parking at the communal restroom reveals a separate pedestrian entrance. The shower room is only accessible to paying campers, with a door lock. There are also mentally ill people. There was a man who opened the toilet door and went to the bathroom.

Wonsando Beach Pine Forest Campground appears to need some maintenance. There is no recycling bin. The sites are relatively close together. The deck is in good condition.
