I had a very disappointing experience at Woodhouse Spa in Walnut Creek. We scheduled a couples massage specifically requesting to be in the same room. We arrived on time, checked in, and were escorted back to begin our services. After we had already undressed and were prepared for our massage, we were informed that the appointment could not be accommodated as scheduled because the therapists needed breaks. At no point prior to our arrival were we notified of any staffing adjustments or scheduling conflicts. Instead, we were told, after we were already ready for service, that the massages would have to take place in separate rooms. We were then informed that they were fully booked for the rest of the day and could not reschedule us for the couples experience we originally booked. The only alternative offered was a complimentary guided self experience in the sauna, which was not comparable to what we had reserved. Alexa, the hospitality manager, did apologize and stated that Anna, the spa director, would be contacting us. As of yet, that has not happened. The lack of communication and follow through was extremely frustrating. If therapist breaks were going to interfere with scheduled appointments, we should have been notified before arriving. Being informed only after we were undressed and expecting our couples massage was uncomfortable and unprofessional. This experience reflected a serious lapse in customer service. When a service cannot be delivered as promised, there should be a meaningful effort to correct the situation and ensure the client still receives what they scheduled. I recommend taking your hard earned money somewhere you are valued and not expected to simply accept something different than what you reserved. Anna, After receiving your comment on my previous post, I feel it is important to clarify our position. We shared with you, as customers, exactly what our experience was booking this appointment online through your company’s website. Rather than acknowledging how this situation unfolded from the client’s perspective, your response focuses on explaining internal policies and procedures. Our frustration is not about therapist breaks or operational logistics. It is about communication. At no point prior to our arrival were we notified that the couples room was not secured. We arrived on time, were escorted back, undressed, and only then informed that the appointment would not be accommodated as expected. That is the core issue. As customers, we can only rely on the booking system provided by your company. If duet services must be reserved by phone and the online system does not guarantee placement in the same room, that process should be made unmistakably clear and proactively confirmed before guests arrive, especially for something as specific as a couples massage. Furthermore, instead of continuing this issue publicly from a policy standpoint, I believe this should be addressed internally within your company to ensure others do not experience the same poor communication and disappointment. Our intention in sharing our review was simply to express our experience honestly and highlight an opportunity for improvement.

Please know I hate to write negative reviews for any business, but I had the worst experience I have ever had at any spa ever at Woodhouse Day Spa. They let another customer take my treatment as I was sitting there waiting in my robe. I told the staff that I thought that someone responded to my name being called while I was waiting. After finally being able to confirm that another customer did respond to my name (we did not have the same name), they proceeded to tell me that instead of being able to receive the 80 minute service I scheduled, they would only be able to provide the 50 minute different treatment that the other customer scheduled. But to compensate for this, they offered me a free add-on service during a shortened service that I did not schedule and that I would still have to pay for. Regardless of the absolute stupidity of how this actually occurred and the apparent lack of communication and protocol, the response when this had happened was the real upsetting part. The poor attempt to rectify the fact that I had been terribly inconvenienced when I was trying to do something nice for myself was very surprising. I ended up leaving with no treatment and was told management would contact me. I was hopeful when I spoke to a manager the next day and I thought they would at least offer me a complimentary treatment in order to compensate for what had happened. Instead I was only offered a 20 percent discount for my next treatment to compensate for ruining my day and being completely incompetent. I thought this was the most ridiculous part of the whole experience and shows that this spa has horrible customer service. Needless to say this was extremely disappointing from a place that charges almost $300 for a massage. This place also has no facilities or amenities and is super dated and definitely does not feel fresh or very clean.

From the moment you step into Woodhouse Spa, you’re no longer in the everyday—you’re in an oasis. The front desk staff are simply outstanding: warm, gracious, and always attentive, setting the tone for the entire experience. Every single massage therapist here is incredible. I’ve never once had a session that was anything less than transformative. Their skill, intuition, and care create treatments that feel both deeply therapeutic and luxuriously indulgent. And it’s not just the massages. Their facials are on another level—each esthetician brings expertise and a gentle, nurturing touch that leaves my skin glowing and my spirit lifted. No matter which facial I choose, I always leave feeling renewed from the inside out. Now, with the addition of their brand new infrared sauna, Woodhouse has truly perfected the art of escape. It’s the cherry on top—a way to melt away stress, detox, and extend the calm, blissful retreat that begins the second you walk in. (I’m secretly hoping they’ll add an ice plunge too) Inside Woodhouse Spa feels like stepping into another world: serene, restorative, and completely devoted to your well-being. For us, this is more than a spa. It’s our personal getaway, a retreat we can return to again and again to reset, restore, and be reminded what true care feels like.❤️✨💫🙏🏼🙌

Overall, my experience at Woodhouse Spa was nice. The facility itself is lovely, and the staff is kind and welcoming. However, I did encounter a few issues during my visit. First, my experience with the infrared light sauna was disappointing; it never reached the desired temperature, and my time was up just as it started to get hot. I was told that the cost of this service would be removed from my bill, but upon reviewing the charges later, I noticed that it wasn’t taken off. The front desk seemed a bit flustered and unorganized, which added to the confusion. On a positive note, my facial with Hannah was incredible! She was attentive and really tailored the treatment to my needs. However, my massage was just okay. The therapist seemed overly cautious about massaging certain areas, which was frustrating. He completely skipped my quads, glutes, and even my feet, which are crucial for me since I work out a lot and on my feet all day. That said, he did a great job with my shoulders and neck. I’m giving a four-star review because of the massage quality, the front desk confusion, and the sauna issues. Despite these drawbacks, I still appreciate the overall experience and would consider returning for future treatments particularly a facial with Hannah.

Totally disappointed in today's experience at Woodhouse Day Spa. I was a regular customer there for several years, yet haven't been in for a few years (young daughter at home and not much time to get away these days!). I decided to treat myself to a long overdue massage and some relaxation time and scheduled an appointment. The massage itself was nice, however there was literally not one place open to sit in the relaxation room after my treatment. I hung around for a bit and was disappointed when no spots opened up, so I made mention to the staff and they kind of shrugged it off and apologized. For a place that doesn't offer many amenities other than a relaxation room, it is definitely frustrating to pay spa pricing and then not even be able to utilize this space. I left feeling a bit pushed out and extremely disappointed. It seems that Woodhouse has gone downhill and can't properly accommodate their guests. It's honestly a huge bummer as my prior experiences were always superb. I will say that I called to speak with management after my service and although they were apologetic and understanding, it doesn't do much to change the unfortunate experience I had.
