Frenchman’s Bend Hot Spring
OVERALL SCORE: 4/10 8/10 Cleanliness (some moss on rocks is all) 9/10 Accessibility (All accessible from road side, just a short walk from the parking area) 4/10 Temperature (Hot water comes up through ground, which prevents sitting on the bottom. Also, the hot and cold mix unevenly, and the temperature is unpredictable.) 2/10 Insects (July 2025 the horse flies where bad, and biting. Bring bug spray.) 8/10 Crowds (Few people attend this hot spring.) Despite it being accessible and clean, we didn't enjoy this hot spring. The constant temperature problem and bug problem made us leave early.
We showed up at 4 and had the place to ourselves. I really like how the river mixes in. These pools are pretty shallow so where it's hot.... It's hot. The adjacent river might make the temp inconsistent but it def cools it off. It's right at the bend of the road where the directions say you've arrived and it's hard to see if you arrive when it's dark.
Wonderful experience. Don't just get in the water...my daughter learned by not testing the water first that some sections are VERY hot. You have to park down the road from the section of river with the hot springs, but it isn't very far to walk. The last bit of road isn't paved but a car could still drive it.
Came here in the middle of march and the whole river was freezing. there was one tiny patch of lukewarm water that was apparently the hotspring.
In Spring, it can be overpowered by the runoff. You need to park 1/4 mile up the road and walk back down the road.
