Spa at The Rockaway Hotel

had a disappointing experience at this spa and am sharing my review here because after submitting feedback through the follow-up email I received, no one reached out to address my concerns. I booked a hot stone massage, but the experience was far from relaxing. The massage therapist applied excessive pressure, and when I asked for lighter pressure, she bluntly told me she doesn’t do light pressure, then continued to be rough. I was left in pain for days. Unfortunately, I don’t recall her name, but she could benefit from better training in both technique and customer service. To make matters worse, after my massage, I visited the pool area, only to find the daybeds were filthy. Given the price and reputation of this spa, I expected a much higher standard of service and cleanliness. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and improves both staff training and facility maintenance.
I had a wonderful self care day planned at the Spa on what turned out to be a balmy October day. When I arrived at the Rockaway Hotel, I checked in at the Spa. After a light lunch poolside, the lovely Kayla showed me to the area reserved for spa guests. With any treatment at the spa you get an hour of pool time. The water in the pool was nice and warm and since it was past the busy season, there were not many people. After my pool time, I scheduled a hot stone massage and Joseph was the kindest most gentlest therapist. He worked out all the kinks and helped me to decompress from life. Kayla and Jess were the consummate professionals showing me around and taking care of me. The icing on the cake was the glass of champagne I had while sitting in the meditation room continuing to relax and unwind. I don’t pamper myself that often so this will definitely be something I do again.
First time here. Miss. Jeanne (my massage therapist) is absolutely excellent. I cannot say this enough. As a World Trade Center toxic dust survivor who has faced three instances of aggressive cancer, have just completed surgery, followed by chemo therapy and radiation treatment, my body is beaten up bad. Each day is a struggle, apart from my mind, both legs, feet, arms and legs have taken a pounding. My neuropathy in feet & hands is debilitating. This is the first time I have had massage done, and after two sessions while we stayed here, it really makes a difference. Her healing hands know exactly the points to touch to enable my body to reconnect. From the bottom of my heart, I say thank you to her. She is a total gem. A true asset to the Rockaway team. The Receptionist was wonderful and welcoming and kind.
We planned a spa day for my husband's birthday. We are big spa people, having been at spas all over the world with a host of different experiences. What a great experience we had at The Spa at The Rockaway Hotel. From the front desk staff to the therapists, everyone was highly skilled and professional. The space is serene and beautifully appointed. Our services were excellent - in fact I think this is the best massage I have ever had and I have had hundreds. If you're an athlete who pushes your body to the limits, pay Janine a visit! Finishing our day with some time at The Winter Pool House was just the best way to end the day. A five star experience all the way.
I had such a lovely, relaxing experience! Ivory was my massage therapist - she was so kind and put me completely at ease. The whole staff was great! I REALLY appreciated that there was a plus size robe ready when I arrived that fit me comfortably. (Assuming this was based on the questionnaire I filled out ahead of time.) I was really anxious about not having a comfortable robe, but that set the tone for the whole afternoon. With time at the pool house/sauna, the massage, and infrared sauna in the spa I thought the price was worth the whole experience. Cannot recommend highly enough.
